New visitors to Moorside with Denton 2nd XI who were third in the league prior to today. The wicket was pretty fast and true with only swing and spin (not seam) likely to beat the bat. Denton won the toss and elected to bat. and at 61-1 off 11 and 117/3 from 20 they were cruising towards a big score. Then after the 8th wicket the brakes went on for some reason with only 17 runs from the last 12 overs. Nonetheless a challenging total faced the 'side of 235 to win. Pick of the bowlers Jack and Zulfi with three each. Pip and Pete B opened and put on 85 from 12 overs before Pip holed out. He followed on from the T-20 style of the day before, scoring 59 from 38 with 10 boundaries, three of which were maximum. Jack came in at 3 and he and Pete kept it ticking though not quite the pace of Pip. Pete left next four short of his 50. Enter Lloyd, exit Lloyd shouldering arms to a straight one which took his off stump. Jack out six overs later for 31. Raf and Percy next kept the run rate safe with Rafiq picking up where Pip left off. With Raf out caught and Percy run out, down to John and Monksey to score 29 in 5 overs. Down to the wire with two balls left they did it.
Have to say the number of dropped catches by both sides was more than the wickets taken. Ground fielding not at its best and it was bad day at black rock for Mr Eaves from Denton, who scored two, took 1/21 from 3 overs, dropped catches and let runs go by. MoM, joint effort between Pip and Rafiq, the latter on fast being cooled down by a wet towel, the former by a pint of Carlsberg.
