Moorside CC 1st XI v Dukinfield CC 1st XI

No-one expected the ground to be fit for play today after last evening's tropical storm, least of all Harry Mouse who was still ordering "lemonade" at 12:00 midnight. Meanwhile as the rains fell, Arnie was outside videoing River Turf Pit Lane on his phone and clutching his small umbrella. But as we wandered on to the outfield at just after 10:00 this morning the ground had soaked it all up and the wicket, though a little seepage had occurred, was still bone dry for the most part.
Play started on time with Dukinfield choosing to field having won the toss. The first two wickets fell for 18 and 29 respectively and the run rate was low. Immy and Harry, the spin Twins, (think Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, height-wise), steadied things down and lifted the score to 86 before Immy top-edged closely followed by Harry, one over later caught behind. Swampy and Jack put on 40 or so and then it was down to Pip "Farmer" Taylor with his dairy shots and Swampy to raise the total to 183 from 50: Swampy making 50; and Pip a brisk 26 from 34.
The Dukinfield skip called for the heavy roller having seen the ball fly a bit in the Moorside innings. 'Twas to no avail really as an accurate opening spell from Drew and Jack saw 5 wickets fall for just 38 runs. The "twins" came on with Dukpro De Silva hanging around and proving obstinate. He carted Immy for a 6 and 4 into the Highland Cattle field and Griff "the Cat" put him down off one of Harry's early overs. However, he made up for it two-fold by pocketing two scorchers including De Silva less than two overs later. That was that with Dukinfield scoring 85/10 from 34.5 overs. MOM? Swampy for his 50 n/o.
