Having posted 219 from 20 overs the previous day at Heyside in the T-20 fixture, there was a sense that top order batsmen were still in T-20 mode for this 50 over cup match. The track was not central (the T-20 was!) and traditionally the clubhouse side of the square can be bouncy. At times, it was unplayable for both sides. Moorside won the toss and decided to bat. Ronny Venger crashed a quick 23 from 20 and was caught with Jacko on 1! Swampy scored 16 all boundary 4’s, meanwhile Jacko was out for 9 caught at slip off one that got up a bit to say the least. Swampy caught, Gerry 38 from 42, caught, Immy caught, Danny caught and so it went on. All 10 wickets were catches. 151 all out with all but 11 overs left. To be honest Heyside faired little better with opener Wilkinson caught superbly by Meatball Broadhurst off Swampy, quickly followed by pro Khiljee same catcher off Warby. However, Ryan Barnes was digging in and using his feet to kill the bounce. It was a seamers’ day with no wickets for the spin twins, but their 18.5 overs cost little over 55 runs. Swampy bowled well as did Warby and Jacko, and with Barnsey c/b Swampy with the score on 118-7, a win looked on the cards. Garnett caught by Harry Mouse the Juggler at short cover from Swampy at 118-8 and a win looked even close. But the Seamers and Immy had bowled out and to try and offer seam at one end on came Sneaky. It wasn’t one of Sneaky’s better days in the field, having dropped R Barnes on about 30 earlier. His to overs cost 9 plus 5 wides. Cashin finished with a six over cow off Ron Avenger and that was that. Out of the cup, still in the T-20 and all to play for in the League. Next Friday it’s Stayley away in the T-20 (Oh joy) and Ashton at home on Saturday in the League. Ashton are propping the League up just now, let’s hope it doesn’t rain.
