The third friendly for the Trevor Bland Memorial Trophy played this year at Moorside as a T-20 fixture

This year the fixture which is part of an annual Bowls and Cricket fixture between Moorside & Werneth for the Trevor Bland Memorial trophies was played as a T-20. Unfortunately the bowls section at Werneth were unable to get a team together so the Moorside bowlers had a friendly comp between themselves. Back to the cricket....
Werneth won the toss and elected to bat and scored a pretty low score of 114 from their 20 overs. This was down to some accurate bowling (once Sneaky found his radar, which was a bit dusty due to lack of use). Six bowlers were used and each collected at least one wicket. The aforementioned Sneaky was the pick of the six with 2 for 15 from his 4, closely followed by Shaggy with 2 for 18 from his 4. Fiaz picked one up with his medium-pace wobblers and Meetball and Antonio Redmondo (see photo of quiff) both collected a scalp from their two overs. Warby opened the attack and his first two went for 12 but he picked up opener/keeper Lutener caught by Hodders at his favourite deep mid-off position. (The sequence from run up to catch is in the picture gallery included in this report.)
The top dismissal of the Werneth innings was a catch at deep backward square by Warby off Antonio, Mrs Griffiths stating, with a quiver, that it was almost the best she had ever seen. We've worked on the CCTV and to videos are uploaded on to this report. Did his right foot touch the rope?
A quick change around with Hodders opening with Pete B. They put on 74 for the first wicket of which Pete scored 10! Needless to say Hodders used the fixture as a bit of net where he could practice amongst other things, his reverse sweep. Joined by Fiaz the attack was crucified with the total reached in just 11.2 overs. Hodders finished with 92 n/o from just 41 balls including 9 fours and 7 sixes. Fiaz, joining in, hit a quick 13 from 11 including a six and a four.
Thanks to both teams for continuing to celebrate the life of Trevor who devoted many hours of his time to both Clubs. He loved cricket and would have enjoyed today's knock from Grant immensely; as well as looking in disbelief at Warby's catch.
