Ron Avenger avenges for the roll over at Shaw back in April

Talk about summer, overcast with a cool wind for the end of July. Still despite the square resembling a duck pond at 3:30pm yesterday, the wind must have done its job and the covers did most of theirs. Play started on time with Shaw winning the toss and choosing to bat. Guest OA Jameel Stuart was back again (no comment).
It was observed that paint actually did dry quicker than the Shaw innings, apart from a flurry from Mr Stuart (22 from 22) and Sajid Mahmood (55 from 71). Mr Stuart lost his bails off a ball from Drew that looked as it was flying down leg, Pip thought he had clipped it and went up for the catch (which he dropped). Not to worry the bails were off (see photo) and that was the end of he. Shaw scored 165 from 50 overs with 4 fours and 4 sixes, though to be fair the outfield was a bit sticky. Immy picked up three for 39, Drew was inexpensive at 2 for 25 from 10. Warby bowled 15 for 46 runs with 2 wickets including a c&b which settled in his paunch. Ron Avenger bore the brunt of Saj’s six hitting and some left-handed slogging over cow from septuagenarian Mel Whittle.
Some might say 165 was reasonable given Shaw were 72-5. The tail wagged a bit and the outfield was desperately slow. Time for tea.
Ronnie Venger opened with the Jagster and they reached 49 before Jack was caught by the aforementioned Mr Whittle at slip, diving to his right (fair play Mel). Swampy looked out of sorts and edged a nothing ball to slip at t’other end. Enter Harry Mouse needing just a dozen or so for his thousand for the season. Meanwhile Ron Avenger was clubbing it to all parts and he reached 50 from 39 balls with 9 fours. Then, of course, he tried to put Mel out of the ground and was caught on the cow boundary. Immy in next at No.5 and that was that. Harry Mouse paced his innings well, treated Mr Whittle with the respect he deserved and scored steadily off the others. He passed his 1,000 runs for the season and was not out on 38. Immy outpaced him in the end with a red-inker of 46 from 57 deliveries. Mr Stuart did not have a good day with the ball (6 overs, 0 for 52) with Ron Avenger avenging for the defeat at Shaw back in April.
