1st XI v Firwood Bootle CC (LCB Cup Round 3)

After a fine win against St Anne's CC, Moorside defeated by Firwood Bootle from the Liverpool Competition. Stepping up to the standard of the Liverpool Competition was always going to be a challenge. Firwood Bootle won the toss and elected to bat on a fine. warm afternoon but with rain threatening later. The second top scorer in Bootle's innings was extras with 42 out of a total of 230. (Bootle were to concede only 1 extra in the Moorside innings.) Wides were penalised heavily (with 28 in total). At one point Bootle we 95 for 5 but a quick 51 from 43 balls from Purser and late order 20's from Snellgrove and wicketkeeper Williams completed the innngs from 42 overs before the rain (and wind!) arrived. Tea was taken and play was resumed with overs adjusted to 42 at around 5:15. Despite a quick 40 from Hodders and 28 from skipper Danny Anchor, the middle order came and went for 1 run with only Rick Harrington showing any sort of resistance. His 54 from 48 deliveries included 3 fours and 4 sixes. With a little more application from others and a more frugal extras tally and who knows? Anyway, time to focus on the 2nd half of the season and the T-20.
